Midjourney Bot | Makes an AI Image with Imaginative Power
Midjourney is a cool research lab that loves to dive into new ways of thinking and help us unleash our imagination like never before!
Midjourney is a cool research lab that made an awesome AI program! It can turn words into pictures, just like DALL-E and Stable Diffusion. The program is in open beta since July 12, 2022. David Holz, who co-founded Leap Motion, leads the Midjourney team. They have a free version of their tool, but also paid options with faster access, more capacity, and extra features. Guess what? Midjourney is already profitable! To create art with Midjourney, you just need to use the commands on their Discord bot. So much fun!
There are two cool ways to try out the tools: First, you can use the Midjourney Bot to create awesome images. Second, head over to the friendly web app at https://www.midjourney.com/ where you can explore your own artwork and check out what other users have created.
You can also use the Midjourney Bot on their official Discord server (https://discord.gg/midjourney) or any other Discord server where it’s available.
Create your First Image
Once you give their tool a try, you’ll be able to make a few images for free before considering a subscription. You will have around 25 free uses of the /imagine command or other queries (variations, upscales). These uses are also known as “jobs” or “GPU-minutes”.
Are you already on a Discord server where our Midjourney Bot has been set up? If so, go to step 1.
If you don’t think you’re already on a Discord server with the Bot, you can join there official Midjourney Discord server with this link: https://discord.gg/midjourney
1. Pick any one of the #newbies
channels from the left sidebar
Don’t see any #newbies
channels?
If you’re on the official Midjourney Discord server and you can’t see them yet, you can give it a friendly try by restarting your Discord app.
Alternatively, you may not be on the official server.
You may also generate images with our tool on another server that has invited and set up the Midjourney Bot: Check out the instructions over there or feel free to ask some seasoned users to guide you to the Bot channels on that server.
2. Use the /imagine
Command
To play around with the Midjourney Bot, head over to the Bot channel on Discord, such as #newbies-1
. Simply start typing /imagine
and you’ll see something cool appear above your text.
To get started, simply click or tap on the /imagine
option: This will create a prompt
field where you can input whatever you’d like the bot to generate. Feel free to watch the video below to see a cool demonstration in action.
You can also give it a shot by pressing the Spacebar, Tab, or Enter keys to create the prompt
field. The bot commands with slashes will only work in specific bot channels. So, if you try typing /imagine
in regular channels like #trial-support
, it won’t work.
Once you’re happy with the message you’ve written, simply hit Enter or send it. That will send your request to the Midjourney Bot, which will promptly begin creating your images.
3. Hang tight while the Midjourney Bot handles your request.
It only takes a moment to come up with four options for you based on your request.
4. Upscale Your Image or Create Variations
Once the 2×2 grid of images is done generating, you’ll see two rows of buttons popping up.
- At the top row, you’ll find
U1
,U2
,U3
, andU4
buttons. These buttons are there to help you make your chosen image bigger. When you upscale an image, it creates a larger version of the selected image, with dimensions around 1024×1024 pixels. By default, this process also adds more details to the image. - On the lower row, you’ll find
V1
,V2
,V3
, andV4
buttons. These buttons allow you to create different versions of the image you picked. When you create variations, you’ll get four new images that have a similar overall style and composition to the one you chose.
Once you’ve hit the U button to upscale, you’ll unlock a bunch of cool new choices:
Make Variations
does exactly what the V buttons do, creating fresh options in a grid.Upscale to Max
takes the image and makes it even bigger, reaching a resolution of around 1664×1664.Light Upscale Redo
is giving it another go, starting fresh, but with a bit less detail this time around.
“By clicking on these buttons, it will also reduce the number of remaining 25 free jobs you have. To find out how many uses you have left, simply type /info
just like you did with /imagin
e.”
5. Save Your Image
To see the image in its full size, simply click on it. If you want to save it to your computer, just right-click on the image and select Save image
. If you’re using a mobile device, you can tap on the image and then tap on the download icon (📥) located in the top right corner.
Once you’ve Sign In With Discord
, you can see your upscaled image and a grid of four images right away on your website gallery at midjourney.com/app.
6. Get the Results Sent to Your DMs (Direct Messages)
If you like the Midjourney Bot to send you a private message on Discord containing your final results, just tap or click on the envelope emoji (✉) in response to one of the bot’s messages when it’s done creating either a single enhanced image or a 2×2 grid. You can take a look at the example below.
7. If you want to generate more, consider becoming a paid subscriber
Your 25 free job credits won’t expire for now, but they also won’t automatically renew. Once you’ve used them all up, you can head over to any Bot channel and use the /subscribe
command to get a membership. Just click on the link that Midjourney generates, and it will take you to your subscription page.
8. Hey there, as a subscriber, feel free to send a direct message to the bot if you’d like to work one-on-one with it
If you’re a paid subscriber, you can chat with the bot privately in your Direct Messages instead of using the public channel with other people. However, please note that any images created in your direct messages will still need to follow the content and moderation rules and will be visible on your Midjourney website gallery.
